Audi is extending its Cylinder on demand technology to three engines in its range: the 1.4 TFSI, 4.0 TFSI and W12. This technology deactivates cylinders in the engine when driving conditions allow it, under low load or gentle acceleration. Fuel savings can reach as much as 20%.
Volvo has shared some results from the experiments it is carrying out on inductive charging for electric cars. With this charging system, a cable connection between the charger and the vehicle is not needed; the car only has to stop over the charging device. Ford has presented the new system for automatically avoiding obstacles in the path. The system is called Obstacle Avoidance and can detect and automatically avoid obstacles such as pedestrians or other vehicles. To do so, it features three radars, sensors and a camera that “sees” the road up to 200 metres ahead.
