Caterham Superlight Twenty, only 20 units

Caterham has announced the launch of a limited and special edition of the Superlight, its uncompromising sports car, called Superlight Twenty.

It is a version limited exclusively to 20 units, which will delight fans of the British brand.

The Superlight was the first model from the English manufacturer. It was launched 20 years ago with a daring style that captivated the public as soon as it appeared, and remained in series production until 2004, when the British manufacturer withdrew it. Now, the brand pays tribute to one of its cult models with the launch of this edition of just 20 units.

Aesthetically, the Superlight Twenty stands out for numerous exclusive details such as several moldings and carbon fibre parts -the front wings or the front grille surround, for example-, or the gloss-black painted wheels. The tubular chassis, made of aluminium, is not painted, which means a reduction of 6 kilos in the car’s total weight.

Inside, the most striking changes refer to a small commemorative plaque located in the centre of the console, and there is also specific instrumentation and a gear lever knob unique to this version.

Mechanically, the Superlight Twenty is equipped with an engine of Ford origin, a petrol, naturally aspirated 1.6-litre unit producing 133 CV. It is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox with close ratios, which transfers power to the rear axle through a limited-slip differential.

Performance is brilliant, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, thanks in part to a kerb weight of 498 kg. The car’s low weight is also due to the absence of equipment, since the Superlight Twenty can only fit heating, a winter pack and metallic paint as optional extras.
