Caught with a BMW M2 CS at 256 km/h on the AP-7
A driver has been caught travelling at 256 km/h at the wheel of a BMW M2 CS on the AP-7, and was also under the influence of cocaine.
Although a high-performance car can certainly go very fast, its performance is designed for use on a circuit or in emergency situations. That is why it is surprising to have come across the news of a BMW M2 CS, the most extreme version of the German sports car, travelling at over 200 km/h on the AP-7. It is less surprising when we discover that its driver was under the influence of narcotics, a bad combination in any case, regardless of whether the car is fast, sporty or built for industrial work.
But the facts are there, and a speed camera has captured a BMW M2 CS travelling at 256 km/h, to be more precise. The incident took place near Tarragona and led to the arrest of a 48-year-old driver who tested positive for cocaine, resulting in a harsher penalty than the one for simply exceeding the speed limit by a wide margin.
Based on the image shared by the Guardia Civil itself, we can confirm that this is a BMW M2 CS. This variant represents the final chapter of this generation of the Bavarian sports car, which offers a significant weight reduction and a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine capable of delivering 450 CV and 550 Nm of torque, figures that translate to the road with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h.

This shows that, despite the high speed at which this driver was travelling, taking advantage of the light traffic and under the effects of drugs, there was still room for more. And cars like the BMW M2 CS are no joke, and their performance is designed to be used on a circuit.
Given this, the full force of the law falls on the offender, with fines of 600 euros for exceeding the speed limit by more than 191 km/h on roads limited to 120 km/h. To this we must add driving under the influence of narcotics, which carries fines of between 500 and 1,000 euros.

Taking into account the context of this situation, imprisonment and the withdrawal of the driving licence are both on the table. In the first case, the sentence may be two to six months in prison, while the licence may be revoked for between one and six years. Either way, the offender will not escape this situation unscathed, as he not only puts his own life at risk, but also that of other road users.
