Chevrolet Sonic recalled in the US due to missing one or more brake pads

GM is recalling the Chevrolet Sonic in the US because some of these models may be missing one or more brake pads.

Generally, reporting on a recall for details that are not particularly important is not in keeping with the style of Highmotor, but here is a case that deserves our attention, not only for the danger that braking without one or two brake pads can entail, but also for the apparent degree of irresponsibility on GM’s part. Obviously we are not going to judge the brand just because a single car is missing its brake pads, but a single case has triggered a recall of the Chevrolet Sonic in the US.

The fact is that some Sonics may be braking without one or two brake pads on the front wheels, either the two outer ones or the two inner ones. The whole recall was caused by a Sonic from a rental company that came in for service at the dealership and did not have all four of its brake pads.

Braking in those conditions doubles the braking distance and causes uneven wear of the brake disc. But the folks at GM already know this very well, and they have sent the corresponding recall letter to the owners of 4,296 Chevy Sonic. The recall includes vehicles manufactured from June 2, 2011 to November 21, 2011.
