SEMA is not only the event where the most veteran vehicle conversion and modification companies showcase their latest creations. It is also where newcomers to this market look to carve out a place for themselves, and to do so they bring out their best proposals. The case of Blazin Rodz is quite spectacular, and so is its proposal, the Chevy Chevelle “Doughboy”.

This is a fully hand-built model, in which the converter did not simply take an old chassis of the model and add a few upgrades and a new engine. This chassis was manufactured for this unit by designer Art Morrison, on which Blazin Rodz carried out several specific adjustments that help raise its power to 2,800 CV and keep all that power under control.

For example, the suspension was designed entirely for this car, using 7075-T6 aluminium CNC-milled. The intercooler was designed with radiator ducts made from carbon fibre, which were 3D printed. The radiator frame serves as the support for the front nose. The engine’s air intake was also custom made and doubles as a fuel rail, and the engine has been positioned 38 centimetres closer to the centre of the vehicle than in traditional models.

The 8.8-litre Brodix V8 engine uses two Precision 8385 Next Gen turbos and Aeromotive Brushless 10 GPM fuel pumps. Other design elements optimise the aerodynamics and offer practical solutions so that the car delivers the performance we can see.

Power, but with safety

All this power calls for added safety, so the cabin is reinforced by a 4130 roll cage, along with reinforced pillars. The Motec C1812 instrument cluster gives the driver good visibility of all information about the vehicle. The steering wheel comes from a Audi R8 and provides access to some quite appealing functions.

The creators of this car wanted to build something that not only turns heads, but also offers a very engaging driving experience. If you want to see the entire build process of the Chevy Chevelle, the company has created a YouTube channel where it shows, step by step, how this car was built.
