Confirmed! BMW gives Tesla a

The electric saloon from BMW will reach dealerships at the end of the year and will offer a range of 400 kilometres.

Tesla is without a doubt the benchmark in electric car manufacturing. All car manufacturers are trying to match their sales figures with rivals for the Model S, Model X and very soon the Model 3. For the time being, the efforts of its competitors have not managed to close the gap with the American firm, but this situation could come to an end thanks to BMW.

The Bavarian brand has announced that it will present an electric 3 Series during the Frankfurt Motor Show, which will take place next September. The electric saloon from the German firm will go head-to-head with the Tesla Model 3 with a range of around 400 kilometres; somewhat more than what the Tesla electric car will initially offer in its basic configuration.

The BMW 3 Series is by far the best-selling model of the Bavarian firm

The fact that BMW has chosen its best-selling model to create a 100% electric version is very interesting. The BMW 3 Series is by far the best-selling model of the Munich-based firm. Last year alone, the saloon was the preferred choice of one in five of BMW buyers worldwide.

Another key factor that will allow BMW to compete directly with the Tesla “bestseller” – the Model 3 – is the compact dimensions of the 3 Series; a model that is 4,633 mm long, compared with the 4,676 mm of the Model 3.

It will reach dealerships at the end of the year. Will this affect the sales of the Tesla Model 3?

According to the information revealed, the electric BMW 3 Series will have a range close to 400 kilometres and is expected to reach dealerships at the end of this year. If so, sales of the Tesla Model 3 could be affected due to the accumulation of reservations the model currently has – more than 400,000 worldwide – and the penalties that could result from the consequent delays in deliveries. The price difference between the electric car from BMW and the one from Tesla remains to be seen.

An electric X3 is also in BMW’s plans

And it seems that the electric BMW 3 Series will not be the only model with which the Bavarian brand will expand its range of electric models. The new BMW X3 will also receive a 100% electric version in the coming years.
