Confirmed: Norway is the paradise for those who want to drive an electric car

Norway has become the largest electric car market in the world, with almost 50% market share from January to June

Whereas in Spain the percentage of electric vehicle sales is negligible. There are countries that have become true champions of electric mobility and its application in daily traffic. And, above all of them, stands Norway, a small country that has shown that electric cars can be relied upon day to day and that flaunts sales figures that grow year after year.

According to figures provided by the Reuters agency, Norway has reached an electric car sales share of 48.4% of total sales of cars. Figures that are set to keep rising, since cars with conventional engines will be banned in Norway from the next decade onwards. Currently, quite high taxes are being applied to ICE engines, which is leading buyers to seriously consider the purchase of an electric car.

Norway’s electric cars also enjoy a series of advantages in taxes and parking fees, ferry fares and motorway tolls, which makes electric cars a very valid option when buying a new vehicle. All of this means that Norway leads electric car sales, and among all brands, one stands out.

Indeed, with a market share of 24.4% it is Tesla. The American manufacturer sold 3,760 vehicles in July alone, so it takes the largest share of sales. The best-selling car from January to June was the Tesla Model 3, followed by the Model S and the Model X, which are considerably more expensive than the main model sold.

But brands such as Renault, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia have also established themselves in the country and are using Norway as a testing ground for their electric models, and a lot of data is being gathered that will later be reflected in other countries. This list of manufacturers could grow with the presence of Ford and Mercedes, which are considering entering the Norwegian market over the coming months. Will we soon have similar electric car sales figures in Spain?
