Volvo XC40 Electric Cars Range / versions SUV
Confirmed: The Volvo XC40 will be the brand's first model with a 100% electric powertrain
Although Volvo says it will not produce models exclusively for electric power, it will offer electric versions of its current models, starting with the XC40

Not long ago we had the chance to see the Volvo XC40 and put it to the test. It is a small SUV with a presence and a youthful attitude, yet it keeps the presence that makes a Volvo model something to take seriously. The grille and the LED daytime running lights with the now familiar “Thor’s Hammer” shape define the style that has become typical of the brand’s new Swedish models, such as the XC90 or the recently presented Volvo S60.
What we did not yet know is that this compact SUV will be the first to offer a version with a 100% electric powertrain. That said, Volvo’s plans are to wait until its subsidiary Polestar launches its second model, which will simply be named the number 2. That will arrive during 2019, so the electric version of the Volvo XC40 will not arrive until 2020 at the earliest.

It will not be the only Swedish model to offer a zero-emission version, since the next-generation Volvo XC90, which will follow the launch of the electric version of the small SUV, will also be available in a fully electric version. Volvo does not plan to create a line of electric cars; instead, it will offer electric versions of its existing models.
In this way, Volvo will start with a car that is enjoying resounding success and that will help it establish itself in the market for purely electric cars. By following up with another SUV model, larger and more capable, it ensures continuity and the possibility of sustained growth in its electric range.
To begin with, the Volvo XC40 electric will have characteristics similar to the plug-in hybrid model, although no details have been given about the type of motor and batteries the model will use. We will have to wait a little longer, at least until the Polestar 2 is unveiled, since it is already in development and it seems the company is waiting to make more progress before revealing details about the new Volvo XC40 electric.
