Detroit Show 2012: Nissan e-NV200 Concept

One of the world premieres that Nissan is showcasing at the current Detroit Show is the Nissan e-NV200 Concept, a prototype that shows what the electric version of the NV200 would look like, a van aimed at both passenger transport and industrial use.

Most of the components of its drivetrain are identical to those of the Nissan Leaf. It is a synchronous electric motor with a maximum output of 80 kW (108 CV) and 280 of torque. The energy that powers it is stored in a block of 48 lithium-ion batteries whose capacity is unknown, so we cannot know the range.

In addition to incorporating the electric motor and batteries, Nissan has made some aesthetic changes, such as a newly designed front end with a bumper inspired by the one on the Leaf, new rear lights and a rear bumper with a built-in diffuser to improve aerodynamics.

Inside, we find a decor dominated by the color blue, with the main controls relocated and a central console topped by a screen similar to that of a digital tablet.

“With its emissions-free propulsion system, with no exhaust pipe or tailpipe emissions, the Nissan e-NV200 Concept combines comfortable, quiet driving with the extraordinary cargo capacity and versatility of the interior enclosed by its compact body,” said Hideto Murakami, corporate vice president of Nissan.

“A vehicle like the Nissan e-NV200 Concept would revitalise the current van market in many ways, helping improve quality of life in the city and offering a smart investment for businesses both large and small,” he added.
