Evija Lotus Electric Cars Curiosities
Did you know that the Lotus Evija's engine will sound like the engine of an F1 single-seater?
The Lotus Evija will sound like the Cosworth DFV engine of the Lotus 49. A real tribute for your ears!

As you probably already know, electrification is here to stay in our everyday lives. Brands are working hard to increase the range of their new models, but they are also putting all their efforts into creating a spectacular sound for their engines. Pedestrians and even drivers are used to hearing a certain sound, and now, at times, it is almost imperceptible. That is why Lotus is working on a distinctive sound for its new model: the Lotus Evija will sound like an F1 single-seater engine.
We are not saying this ourselves; the brand has confirmed it and has pointed out that its all-electric hypercar will have a very particular sound when travelling at low speeds. This is being developed because European regulations require electric and hybrid cars to produce a sound when travelling at speeds between 0 and 30 km/h. This sound will alert pedestrians and cyclists and help prevent potentially dangerous situations.

The Lotus Evija will sound like an F1 car
The manufacturer has chosen one of the best sounds it could include in its new electric car: the Lotus Evija will offer the sound of the Cosworth DFV engine of the Lotus 49, the F1 single-seater the brand used in the 1960s and one of the most iconic models of the British manufacturer. Patrick Patrikios is the music producer in charge of this soundtrack.
Patrikios has the task of making the Lotus Evija sound like a genuine F1 single-seater. The work is not easy, as it does not consist only of recording with a microphone and “pasting” the sound onto the hypercar. The music producer has had to synthesise the audio and treat it, adjusting the frequency so that it blends perfectly with the Lotus Evija.

The producer has said that “there is a purity in that engine, a raw edge and an emotion that awakens something in your soul, just like the best songs.” “We all wanted something that would create an emotional connection between the car and the driver. Sound is very influential when it comes to creating and shaping emotions, enriching that bond which is such a critical part of the experienceLotus.” “There is a wonderful symmetry. I love that the sound of one of the most iconic cars of all time serves as inspiration for the most modern one.”
