Did you think you had seen it all? Wait until you see Kyocera's new lighting technology
Kyocera’s new lighting technology will increase drivers’ visibility.

Kyocera took advantage of CES to unveil its new lighting technology. These are the first laser and infrared headlights in the automotive sector. Kyocera’s new technology is capable of providing drivers with greater visibility and will be integrated into autonomous driving systems. In addition, this innovation will make it possible to improve advanced driver assistance functions.
Therefore, Kyocera SLD becomes the first company in the world to present a lighting module that emits “bright laser light for low and high beams, as well as infrared light”. This means that the same headlight will be able to provide visibility both for the driver and for any infrared camera the car may be equipped with.
The company has also stated that its LaserLight headlight modules provide high-brightness, long-range illumination. This translates into a greater illuminated distance without dazzling other vehicles on the same road. Kyocera has also noted that this technology will allow for a better safety score in tests such as Euro NCAP or IIHS.

It is important to highlight that infrared light will provide better visibility for the night-vision cameras installed in the various driver assistance systems of the models, as it allows the integration of new lighting functions such as LiDAR sensors or 3D flash, which are essential for autonomous driving.
Kyocera calls this capability “dual emission” and has stated that it cannot be added to LED lighting elements “because they cannot be modulated at high speeds”. “Both types of light emanate from a single source, which means the actual headlight modules can be smaller, giving car designers more freedom of presentation.”
Kyocera’s LaserLights come in sets of four per headlight: two for low beam and two for high beam. The emission patterns can be calibrated to SAE or ECE/CCC standards. Kyocera has also added that its laser lighting can be incorporated into optical fiber. This means its technology can be used to illuminate logos and even front grilles.

It is worth mentioning that this new Kyocera technology has already been tested by some participants in the Baja 1,000 competition and in other motorsports. However, these lighting systems could also be equipped in the railway, marine and even aviation sectors.
