Do you use shared motorbikes? This might interest you

Motosharing is gaining followers in recent weeks, so you should be extra careful.

Do you use shared motorbikes? If so, this may well interest you. The Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has published a video offering a series of tips for using shared motorbikes. The DGT publication compiles a set of basic recommendations for all motorbike riders in the city, not just shared-use ones.

Likewise, the DGT has spent weeks working to improve and increase the safety of users of personal mobility vehicles, PMVs. The truth is that this form of mobility is here to stay, with its downsides and its upsides. To avoid the former, follow the advice provided by the DGT.

At the start of the summer, the DGT already published the first of a series of videos offering tips for users of shared mobility vehicles. In that case, the sequence was aimed at users of apps such as Zity, FreeMove, ShareNow or Wible, which have a fleet of cars that users book to drive for a short period of time.

Now it is the turn of riders who share motorbikes

The operation is identical to that of carsharing: the motorbike is booked and unlocked through an app, and payment is made through the app based on how long the vehicle has been used. The video reminds users of basic rules, such as the fact that using this type of vehicle requires a valid and current driving licence.

Before setting off, it is important to check that the lights and horn work, and that the rear-view mirrors are correctly adjusted. For shared-use motorbikes, the rules are the same as for privately used ones: a helmet is mandatory, speed limits must be respected, and you must not ride after consuming alcohol or drugs.

Once under way, it is essential to exercise extra caution at intersections, when heavy vehicles are present, or near parked vehicles where an occupant may be getting out. Remember that you must not use headphones or other accessories that could distract you.
