The Bugatti Centodieci, a fitting tribute to the EB110

The Bugatti Centodieci pays special homage to one of the brand’s flagship models: the Bugatti EB110.

It’s no secret that Bugatti builds some of the best hypercars in the world. In fact, it is so focused on building speed machines that it has stated it will not build an SUV or an electric car in the next decade. Instead, it focuses on limited-edition hypercars such as the Bugatti Centodieci. The company began deliveries of this impressive tribute car in June, and since then owners have been selling them at significant profits.

This latest customer unit of the Centodieci shows the similarities between it and the classic EB110 Supersport of the 1980s and 1990s in an impressive video. Only 10 units of this beautiful machine will be built, so every opportunity to take a look is worth it.

A beautiful homage

This rare gathering of a Bugatti classic and a future Bugatti classic wonderfully showcases the company’s modern experience in body construction and its forward-looking design philosophy. At first glance, it is clear that these two cars are related. Design elements such as the five cooling vents on the B-pillar of the older car are echoed on the Centodieci, which uses five cooling ports at the apex of the C-line. The Centodieci also features a reinterpretation of the EB110’s engine glass cover, but instead of covering a 3.5-litre quad-turbocharged V12, it now conceals an W16 quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre engine producing 1,578 horsepower. At the rear, the Centodieci features an enlarged diffuser that pays tribute to the EB110’s twin exhaust pipes.

The front of the car features a new visor-inspired cabin, and the front end is clearly a tribute to the horseshoe design of the original EB110. The Bauhaus-inspired flat surfaces and EB110 details are made a little more subtle on the Centodieci, which features flowing lines and smooth curves.

Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti’s head of design, has noted that “the EB110 is unique in Bugatti’s history.” “With the brand’s rebirth in the late 1980s, the EB110 emerged with timeless sports car proportions. Its design was finalised by Giampaolo Benedini, the architect responsible for the Campogalliano factory of the time, inspired by the Bauhaus, and the EB110’s memorable graphics and sophisticated shapes certainly reflect that architectural approach. But what was true of the EB110 Supersport is true for us today: form follows performance. So we wanted to see why this car looked the way it did and reinterpreted it for a modern-era Bugatti.”

Nils Sajonz, Head of Special Projects in the Bugatti Design Team, adds that “when designing a car that can safely reach the speeds the Centodieci is capable of, you have to take many different considerations into account.”
