Ebro, the legendary Spanish brand returning as an electric pick-up
After several decades out of the spotlight, the legendary Spanish brand is returning to the market with an electric pick-up that will be built at the Zona Franca plant.
If you were born before the 1980s, you will have known the Ebro brand. A wide range of commercial vehicles that left their mark on an era in our country, which came to an end in that decade. The brand was founded by the company Motor Ibérica S.A. in 1954 and for three decades it had a great presence. Ebro trucks, vans and tractors were very common on the roads and fields of Spain. And now, in 2022, its return is being prepared.
A group of companies has joined forces to give Ebro a future and has developed an electric pick-up that will reach the market in the near future. This model is called the Ebro EcoPower and is being developed with a view to entering production at the Nissan plant in the Zona Franca district of Barcelona.

Producing this model at this plant makes perfect sense, since the Ebro EcoPower is based on the platform of the Nissan Navara. This already gives plenty of clues about the characteristics of the model, although not much is yet known about it. There is no set date for the start of production and we still need to learn many things about the project, but we know there are powerful companies behind it, so it is likely we will soon learn more details about it.
Ebro’s plan is not to stop with this pick-up, but to move forward with the development of other vehicles. Among the brand’s future plans is the design and development of platforms for 8- and 12-metre buses and small trucks. The Nissan plant in the Zona Franca is going through a reindustrialisation process and will go on to produce different models, such as the one we are presenting, and will soon begin producing electrified vehicles for several brands around the world.
