Fastned's fast-charging network also extends to Spain

One of the largest private charging networks is expanding its operations to our country with the aim of boosting the transition to electric mobility

The transition to electric mobility continues its course, slow but steady. And not only with regard to the growing availability of a wide range of vehicles with this type of propulsion, but also the expansion of charging infrastructure by various providers. This is the case of Fastned, a Dutch company with a significant presence in Northern Europe, which has just announced its debut in Spain.

According to a press release published by the company, the first of its charging stations will be located in Casarrubuelos, in the Community of Madrid. More specifically, on the busy A42 motorway that connects the Spanish capital with Toledo. The station will have eight ultra-rapid charging points capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power.

This will not, however, be Fastned’s only charging station in Spain. The Dutch company has already announced its intention to open six more, although for the time being it has not revealed their locations, which we will learn once it has obtained all the permits and authorisations needed to open each one. Spain thus becomes the ninth European country where Fastned has a presence. The company began operations in Denmark and Switzerland last July and shortly after, in September, it also did so in Italy. It also has stations in much of Central Europe.

Spanish electric vehicle drivers will have one more option when it comes to recharging

Upon announcing the news, Michiel Langezaal, the company’s current Chief Executive Officer, explained that Spain still has a long road ahead in the transition to electric mobility, but despite this, the data from last year, 2023, with a 70 per cent increase in sales of this type of vehicle, allow for optimism. He also added that with Fastned’s arrival in Spain, the company wants to facilitate this transition process so that our country can achieve its set targets for decarbonising road mobility.
