Honda NSX Hybrid Cars Curiosities Supercars
Fernando Alonso is having a blast with the new Honda NSX

A few days ago we introduced you to the new Honda NSX, a hybrid supercar that, just like the first NSX from the early 90s, was conceived with a very clear goal: to make life difficult for European sports supercars.
The new Honda NSX has been in development and fine-tuning for some time, and it comes loaded with technology, the most notable being a powerful hybrid propulsion system. But we already told you all about that a few days ago on Highmotor.
The thing is, just yesterday the Spanish two-time Formula 1 world champion, who currently races for the McLaren Honda team, swapped his single-seater for the Japanese supercar.

Driving the NSX is like talking about artistic drawingAt the press conference afterwards, Alonso lavished a great deal of praise on the new Honda NSX: “What surprised me most was the braking, the capacity of the brakes, and the feeling as a driver isn’t that far from what we feel in F1, although the driving is very different”. He added that “driving an NSX is smoother and sweeter than a single-seater, since you don’t go looking for the millimetre as you do in racing. It’s like talking about artistic drawing and technical drawing”. The Asturian driver seems to have got out of the NSX quite satisfied.

The first Honda NSX was presented in 1989 and went on sale in 1990, more than 25 years ago. Back then, the Japanese brand was winning with the McLaren Honda team in Formula 1 (a very different situation from today), taking the constructors’ title for 5 years in a row thanks to the well-known drivers Alain Prost and the sadly departed Ayrton Senna. An Ayrton Senna who, incidentally, took part in the development and fine-tuning of that original NSX, which made Italian supercars of the era tremble.
The new model is manufactured at the “Performance Manufacturing Centre” facilities in Marysville, Ohio (United States). With its 581 horsepower, dual-clutch nine-speed transmission, and all the technology it incorporates, the new Honda NSX is sure to leave no one indifferent. By the way, the letters NSX stand for “New Sport eXperience”.
Below we leave you a video of Ayrton Senna’s test of the original NSX. We hope you enjoy his footwork and handling.
