Inspired by the barchettas of the 1950s, the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 are the first members of the new Icona product line from Ferrari.

Ferrari launches a new product line called Icona. And it does so with two new models, of which a limited series will be built: the new Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2. In total, around 500 units will be built between both, distributed according to the demand for each version.

In reality, the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 are practically the same car, with the difference that the first is configured as a single-seater. The SP2, for its part, allows the driver to share the magic of this exclusive sports car with a passenger. To do so, the tonneau cover is removed, and a wind deflector and a second roll hoop are added.

In both cases we are talking about vehicles that recover the heritage of the legendary competition barchettas of the Italian brand, the 166MM or the 750 Monza and 860 Monza, which won numerous competitions between the 1950s and 1960s. These are cars that repeat that barchetta configuration, which stand out not only for their spectacular design. Among their details are the one-piece bonnet with integrated wheel arches, or the doors opening upwards.

With a chassis and body elements made of carbon fibre, the weight of the Ferrari Monza SP1 is only 1,500 kg (1,520 kg on the SP2). If we combine this figure with the 810 CV at 8,500 rpm produced by the 6.5-litre V12 engine, the result is a spectacular power-to-weight ratio. And this leads to breathtaking performance. Just 2.9 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, less than 7 seconds to reach double that speed from a standstill, and a top speed exceeding 300 km/h.

Looking at the images, you might think it must be impossible to drive a car like this, without a windscreen, at certain speeds. But Ferrari has developed a system called Virtual Windscreen. It is a specific canopy that includes a fairing in front of the steering wheel and instrumentation. It diverts the airflow upwards so that it does not bother the driver.

To add even more exclusivity to the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2, the brand has created an exclusive clothing and accessories line in collaboration with two prestigious Italian luxury houses: Loro Piana and Berlutti. Among other accessories, it includes a racing suit, a helmet, gloves, scarves and sports footwear, all designed with maximum comfort in mind for getting the most out of these beauties.
