Fiat wins the lawsuit against Great Wall Peri

Lately European justice is not smiling on the Chinese industry, because after the setback with the Shuanghuan CEO when it prevented BMW from reaching Europe, the outcome of the lawsuit filed by Fiat against Great Wall Motors has now come to light. The company was attempting to bring the Peri to Italy, a model too similar to the Panda, with features of the Nissan Note as well.
The court ruling from the Turin courts requires the Chinese firm to pay 15,000 euros in fines for the first unit that arrives in Italy, and if it breaks the rules and keeps selling it in the country, it will have to pay another 50,000 euros for each model sold. With those figures, the price at which the Peri would have to be sold would end up looking more like that of a Lexus than of a Panda.
However, Great Wall Motors claims that it is investing heavily in its research and development area (R&D) to be able to produce its own models that meet the quality levels demanded in markets such as Europe. For now, it will focus on the Chinese market, where the Panda is not sold.
