Filtered! This is the BMW 8 Series convertible
The new BMW 8 Series will receive a convertible version that we already know about before its official presentation.
The new BMW 8 Series is one of the most anticipated models this year, and as we can see it will receive a convertible version. The images have been revealed by the British publication Auto Express and anticipate the arrival of this exclusive version to the BMW 8 Series range. The arrival of the BMW 8 Series convertible is no surprise, but we did not expect to see it without camouflage before its official presentation.

The photo shoot was taken in Scotland and reveals some of the key features of this BMW 8 Series Cabriolet. The car’s outline features a chrome frame which, as we can see in the images, will be accompanied by a fabric soft top, a cheaper and lighter solution than the increasingly common retractable hard tops, which on the other hand insulate the vehicle better from the outside. Despite the fabric roof, the car is expected to suffer a weight increase of between 100 and 125 kg, which would place the weight of the whole at almost 2,000 kg.
BMW M850i: the top of the range, excluding the future M8

The BMW 8 Series convertible seen in the images is an M850i powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 530 CV of power. With this engine, the car should reach 100 km/h in around 3.7 seconds. This variant will surely be accompanied by the more affordable 840d with its 3.0-litre diesel engine and 320 CV of power. Both engines will come as standard linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system xDrive.

To facilitate a more visceral drive, the M850i variant features rear-wheel steering and a limited-slip differential on the rear axle. This same version offers a sports exhaust system that makes the car’s sound another of its great attractions.

When will the convertible version reach the market?
BMW has not yet confirmed when the convertible version of the 8 Series will reach the market, but everything suggests it will be shortly after the coupé variant goes on sale this autumn. Most likely the BMW 8 Series Cabrio will be officially presented at the next Paris Motor Show (October) or the Los Angeles one (November).
