First images of the renewed Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The images accompanying this article show the final look of the renewed C-Class that will be unveiled to the public at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show (January 10 to 23, 2011).
They have been published by the German magazine Autobild, and based on similar previous experiences (the same magazine previewed the E-Class, the Phaeton, the Passat, etc. with great accuracy), I believe they are 99.9% reliable.
On the exterior, the most striking changes are seen at the front. The headlights have a design that is very reminiscent of the one used on the SL-Class since its 2008 facelift. Inside them, a long horizontal LED strip acts as the turn signal, and another C-shaped one could serve as the daytime running light (or as the brand’s signature), a function that would be shared with the strip located in the new bumper.
The rear area is not greatly affected. The taillights are very similar to those of the current model, and the revisions to the bumper are not very profound.
For its part, the interior is clearly different and resolves one of the most criticized aspects of the C-Class. The overall lines have been softened, the central screen is no longer foldable but fixed, there are new switches, and it conveys a greater sense of quality thanks to the use of fewer plastics and more premium materials.
The engine range will incorporate the latest innovations from the German brand, such as the new 292 hp six-cylinder petrol engine, and the traditional V6 diesel engines of up to 231 hp. The AMG version is expected to reach a maximum output of 500 hp, and there is also speculation about the possibility of a hybrid version. Its sales in Germany will begin at the end of March 2011.
