These are not good times to unveil the teaser of yet another American pick-up, but the folks at GM are ignoring the energy crisis and high petrol prices. Today Chevrolet previews the new generation of the Colorado, the brand’s mid-size pick-up, sister to the GMC Canyon.

Were it not for the fact that Thailand is one of the countries where the model is built, it might seem a little unusual for them to present it there, at the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show. It also helps that Thailand is another emerging market, one that has shown significant growth in this vehicle segment, with 43% of total sales volume in the local market, according to GM’s senior executives.

As for the model itself, the teaser is said to show the concept version, which will be very close to the final production model. The design of the previous generation is retained, keeping the double-cab pick-up layout. The redesign has focused on the front of the vehicle, now more similar to the grille and light arrangement used on the Equinox.

On the other hand, no date has been announced for the next generation’s arrival in the other markets where the model is sold, nor whether there will be any mechanical changes, so for now it continues with the 3.7-litre V6 Vortec engines (there is another version of 2.9 litres), along with the 5.3 V8 version.
