Ford has today revealed what will become one of the most radical Focus models in the history of the compact model.

We are talking about the Focus RS, which in this third generation is loaded with technology to add power, handling and aggression to one of the most groundbreaking compacts.

This model will be the thirtieth to carry the RS badges on its body. The Focus RS is reissued in this third generation of the Focus, and arrives with a completely redesigned look.
For the first time the Focus RS will be built on a 5-door body, which in itself represents a revolution within the model. It will therefore be the most practical Focus RS ever produced.

The exterior lines leave no doubt: this is an RS through and through. The front is especially aggressive, with a very large air intake outlined by a strip in “RS blue”, which gives it even more sportiness. The fog lights now sit in a more extreme position and have a vertical orientation. The black-tinted headlights give it an even more aggressive touch.

The side view is perhaps the least striking part of the whole. However, it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary Focus thanks to large alloy wheels painted anthracite, behind which we can make out an oversized brake system. Furthermore, “at the back” a spoiler peeks out that is quite…interesting.

Speaking of the spoiler, located above the boot lid, it reminds us of those Cosworths of old with their endless spoilers, so distinctive and eye-catching. In addition, the rear bumper features a fully functional diffuser from which two large oval exhaust outlets emerge, which will surely produce a sound that is pure RS.

From the interior, the highlights are the Recaro seats, model identification plates and exclusive instrumentation that will help create a racing atmosphere that is very appealing in a model with this focus.

The powertrain is another novelty. Gone is the magnificent 2.5 five-cylinder unit of Volvo origin that gave so much joy to Ford. In this third generation, the engine powering the Focus RS will be the new 2.3 EcoBoost four-cylinder that we already know from the Mustang. In this model it will deliver 330 CV, which, combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, guarantees jaw-dropping performance.

Contributing to that performance is also the introduction of a new all-wheel-drive system — it will be the first Focus to enjoy one — which ensures that power is faithfully transferred to the road. Under normal conditions this system will distribute 70% of the power to the rear axle, although it can vary up to delivering 100% of the power to a single axle in certain circumstances. The Focus RS will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds, making it the fastest Focus to date.
