Ford kicks off production of its 100% electric delivery van

Ford has just kicked off production of its 100% electric van, which features 122 CV and a total range of 200 kilometers

The electric vehicle sector is already a reality, something we can see reflected in the countless segments that have decided to turn to this new power source for their engines. Ford was one of the first brands to take the step towards electric vehicles through its transport vehicles. With this premise, the brand with the oval logo has invested considerable effort in developing a 100% electric vehicle capable of meeting the demands and needs of courier companies, which rely on large-sized models such as the Ford Transit, which has served as the basis for this new offspring of the American brand.

Ford has decided to begin production of its new 100% electric vehicle, which will be aimed at companies that need a large storage space and want to save a considerable amount of money. In this context sits the van from the American brand, which has managed to combine all the advantages of a combustion vehicle with the virtues that characterize electric powertrains.

The brand with the oval logo has decided to begin production of this new van at its plant located in Cologne, Germany. But before moving on to manufacturing one of its first 100% electric models, Ford had to deliver a design and technical specifications that met the requirements set by StreetScooter, an electric vehicle manufacturer that has collaborated with the American brand in developing this innovative product.

At the same time, the delivery company DHL has also been especially involved in the project, as they aim to reduce emissions to the maximum extent while keeping the efficiency of their work fully intact. Now, this new model carries the WORK XL name, which indicates a greater storage capacity and performance that is more efficient and up to the standard of the whole.

This is reflected in the cargo volume of 20 m3, in the space for more than 200 parcels and in the payload of up to 1,275 kg. However, once the capacity of the Ford WORK XL has been filled, the total weight will increase, so performance high enough to move the American van will be necessary. To fulfil this task, Ford has installed an electric motor capable of generating 122 CV of power and 276 Nm of torque.

At the same time, these figures are backed up by a range of up to 200 kilometers, a distance more than sufficient to cover all deliveries. In this way, Ford demonstrates its clear commitment to caring for the environment, since, compared with diesel models, each electric vehicle will offer a reduction of 5 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year and a saving of 1,900 litres of fuel. This is only the beginning, since the brand with the oval logo intends to bring a total of 16 vehicles from a range of 40 electric vehicles to market by the year 2022.
