Ford Mustang Mach-e, the electric SUV inspired by the legendary American pony, is coming

On Monday, November 18, the new electric SUV from the oval brand will be officially unveiled. It will be called Ford Mustang Mach-e and will be broadcast live on social media.

The highly anticipated electric SUV inspired by the legendary American ‘pony’ will not only have details that recall the muscle car, but will also carry its name, along with a very distinctive suffix that you’ll surely recognize too. The new electrified member of the oval brand has been christened Ford Mustang Mach-e.

Its official debut will take place next Monday, November 18. The carmaker will broadcast the reveal of the new model live, with the help of famous actor Idris Elba, who will join the new Ford Mustang Mach-e on stage.

If potential buyers like what they see, they can visit the brand’s website, Ford.com, at the end of the presentation and reserve their Ford Mustang Mach-e. Be aware, however, that they will have to make a refundable deposit of around 500 euros.

Those who tune in early to the live broadcast will also have the opportunity to claim one of the limited-edition First Edition units. We’re not sure what differences this so-called First Edition will have from the standard version, but the oval brand promises to share this information during the official presentation, which will take place on next Monday, November 18.

While the carmaker has been open about its upcoming electric vehicle, which features a style inspired by the Ford Mustang, the brand has kept the model’s name under wraps until today. Given the history of the Ford Mustang as a two-door coupé and convertible, the most loyal fans of the muscle car will surely be reluctant to accept the oval brand’s decision to add an SUV to the Mustang model line.

It remains to be seen whether the future Ford Mustang Mach-e will signal a further expansion of the Mustang name to alternate the vehicle’s body styles. However, it is almost certain that the two-door Mustang will adopt some form of alternative powertrain, as a petrol-electric hybrid model is due in the early part of the next decade.

The Mustang Mach-E goes on sale next year with a range of 595 km on the WLTP test cycle, and an estimated EPA range of 483 km. It will therefore be able to travel further on a single charge than the Jaguar I-Pace, which has a range of 470 km according to WLTP and 377 km according to the EPA. Rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants of the zero-emissions SUV are also expected to be in the pipeline, with different outputs.
