Ford Mustang Mach I with 3,000 horsepower at 7,000 RPM

A Ford Mustang Mach I with a 9.4-litre big block and 3,000 horsepower, today’s curiosity.

In today’s exaggeration, let me present this Ford Mustang Mach I (which should be from 1972 or 1973) fitted with a 9.4-litre engine and two turbos that on the dyno has delivered no less than 3,000 horsepower at 7,000 revolutions per minute. Since I have a close connection to this Mustang, having enjoyed a similar one for 10 months some years ago, we could say it is the most powerful vehicle to have briefly run on a street, outside a quarter-mile drag strip.

But let’s not fool ourselves. There is not much fun you can have with this Mustang beyond going down an endless straight line, and even then with great difficulty, however much the chassis has been prepared down to the millimetre to handle so much torque or the very wide rear tyres it runs. And although it doesn’t come close to the roughly 8,000 horsepower of a Top Fuel dragster, it is clear this Mustang will only be seen on the streets from afar.

Doubt that the old horse can unleash 3,000 donkeys’ worth of power? Below I leave you two videos: one with the dynamometer test, the other a general look at the vehicle. It won’t leave you indifferent.
