The American brand has teamed up with Bang & Olufsen to offer a personalized sound equalization system for its audio systems in the Ford models

The days when the car stereo was limited to playing the radio and CDs are long gone. The number of options for enjoying crisper audio in the car has soared in recent years. We don’t just listen to music, we also listen to podcasts, audiobooks and streaming and digital radio services, so the importance of clear, clean sound keeps growing.

Manufacturers are working hard to make that in-car experience better and better, and now Ford is unveiling an advance in its multimedia system. Ford models equipped with a Bang & Olufsen sound system include an equalization system that lets you adjust the type of sound you need at any moment in order to get the most out of each type of audio you want to listen to. Was this already available? Yes, but not in this way.

Simple adjustment, even on the move

Changing the audio settings while driving is not easy, and you must keep your eyes on the road at all times. The Beosonic function of B&O systems lets you change those audio settings with a single touch, without taking your eyes off the road.

This system lets you change the sound settings with a simple touch. It offers several sound spaces called Bright, Energetic, Relaxed and Warm. You can also set a mix of several of these sound spaces, creating a personalized environment. There are also several preset modes: Custom, Lounge, Neutral, Party and Podcast.

The different sound spaces have these characteristics:

  • Bright is more ethereal and crisp at the same time, while softening some of the bass sounds
  • Energetic focuses on rhythm and bass, while increasing the contrast in voices
  • Relaxed has less treble and bass, so it is ideal for background listening
  • Warm makes the sound experience more intimate and close

With a single touch you can access the default settings. With the Custom setting, the preset made by the user is activated, while pressing the Neutral option returns the system to the factory settings. The important thing is that all settings are saved, even if the battery is disconnected, and you can access them later.

The settings were programmed by engineers at Harman, who used a playlist of 25 very different songs. The tests were carried out both stationary and while driving, using microphones and sound measurement systems to make the adjustments so that everything sounds perfect in any situation. In addition, the engineers’ trained ears were decisive in tuning each type of sound.

The result: an immersive in-cabin experience with clean, refined sound tuned for each type of audio content that can be enjoyed on board a Ford.
