Ford will build another 350 units of the Ford GT to meet demand

Of the 1,000 cars originally planned, Ford will now build 1,350 units of the Ford GT, given the high demand for the supercar from the brand with the oval.

Did you dream of a Ford GT and give up when you learned the entire production run had sold out? Well, now you have a second chance. Ford has just announced it will extend Ford GT production for two more years, raising the initially planned 1,000 units to a total of 1,350 cars.

Even so, Ford will not build every Ford GT it could sell. According to the brand, demand is outstripping supply by a ratio of seven to one. The decision was made to guarantee the exclusivity of a car that has caused a sensation since production began at the end of 2016. It is a road-legal supercar that can rival the most elite in its class in performance and dynamic behaviour, with the added charm of the heritage inherited from the legendary Ford GT40.

A supercar with performance and racing heritage

So much so that Ford has also unveiled a new version, the Ford GT Heritage Edition, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the GT40’s first Le Mans victory, decorated in the iconic Gulf Oil colours. Recall that the Ford GT40 uses a 3.5-litre V6 EcoBoost engine with twin turbochargers, which delivers a claimed maximum output of 650 CV. Thanks to its lightweight construction it weighs just 1,460 kg, and it is claimed to reach a top speed of nearly 350 km/h.

To secure one of the new Ford GT40s to be built between 2020 and 2022, interested buyers must submit their applications at www.fordgt.com, and wait to be selected. From there, the customer service team will get in touch to offer follow-up and a fully personalised buying experience, as befits such an exclusive car.
