Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo: green light for Porsche's second electric car!

All that was missing was the final confirmation, and now it’s official. Porsche has announced that the Mission E Cross Turismo prototype will go into series production from 2019.

Porsche’s first electric car will be the upcoming Porsche Taycan. The second now has a date: Porsche will build its crossover derived from the Mission E Cross Turismo prototype in series from 2019.

The Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo was unveiled at last year’s Geneva Motor Show. And, as is usual for the brand with its latest concept cars, it was a prototype that, with few modifications, could easily pass for a production car. And so it has come to pass. Now, following the meeting held on 18 October by Porsche’s Supervisory Board, the German brand has announced that the Mission E Cross Turismo will go on sale in 2019. To build it, 300 new jobs will be created at the Zuffenhausen plant, as part of the company’s plan to invest €6 billion in electromobility by 2022.

Two electric motors, 600 CV of power

For Porsche, the Mission E Cross Turismo is a CUV, short for Crossover Utility Vehicle. Clearly, in terms of dimensions, it departs from the proportions of cars such as the Porsche Macan or the Porsche Cayenne. In fact, at 4.95 metres long, 2 metres wide and 1.42 metres high, the Mission E Cross Turismo is closer to a Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. Beneath its four-door bodywork lies the platform and mechanical base of the Porsche Taycan. It has two electric motors providing a combined output of 600 CV, and claims a range of 500 km, still according to the NEDC cycle.

Like the Taycan, the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo could also use ultra-fast charging, thanks to its 800-volt electrical system. This would allow the battery to be charged to 80 per cent of its capacity in approximately 15 minutes.
