Ford will launch SYNC AppLink in Europe at the end of 2013

The already famous SYNC system from Ford, developed together with Microsoft, arrived in our market with the current Focus. It is now continuing its expansion across the range and appears in recent models such as the Fiesta restyle, or the B-Max, which we saw in Paris. And it will continue this way to make it available across the rest of the line. However, SYNC will not only be offered on more vehicles but will also progressively gain very important functions.

Among those previously known, including the interesting ability to create a Wi-Fi connection inside the car, Ford has announced the introduction of AppLink in Europe in the last months of 2013. This is an application program for smartphones which can also be used in the car through the connection of SYNC with the phone. Likewise, AppLink opens the doors of SYNC to independent application developers so they can work on their own proposals.

The first to arrive in Europe will be the music apps, the most widely used by North American users, who have been using SYNC and AppLink for longer. Ford is presenting this feature of the system at Midem, the meeting with the European music industry. With AppLink, vehicle occupants will be able to access streaming music services and create their own personalized radio.

Applications such as Pandora or Amazon Cloud Player have proven their success in the United States, and equivalent ones will be confirmed in Europe. The user will only have to open the application, choose their favorite songs and stations, and listen to them instantly without needing to save them. All of this through voice control of SYNC, so the driver can also do it without taking their eyes off the road. In the future there will be new music functions developed by those independent companies, which will likewise be used on smartphones connected to SYNC.
