Ford works on two new platforms for its future electric cars
Ford takes the leap into electrifying its models with the unveiling of two new platforms for electric cars that will arrive from 2023 onwards.

The company has presented its plans for a full electrification of its models. This includes models that go beyond mid-size and large cars. It wants to lead the electric market in those powerful vehicles that Americans love. Following the announcement of the Ford F-150 Lightning, a pick-up powered by an electric drivetrain, Ford presents an ambitious plan that includes nine cars and crossovers, plus three electric pick-up models.
To do this, it will use common platforms and components for all of them, seeking to reduce costs and, as a result, offer more competitive prices. We know that Ford and Volkswagen have established a collaboration plan under which Ford will use the MEB platform, and there is also talk of a pick-up that could be built on the Rivian platform.

Preparing the second generation
Although some models have just been presented, such as the Mustang Mach-e or the F-150 Lightning itself, Ford is already preparing the second generation of these models. In the case of the former, an updated version of the GE platform, used by this model, will be presented in 2023 and will be called GE2. It will also be used for the next generation of the Mustang and for SUV models from Ford and Lincoln.
For the second generation of the pick-up, 2025 is mentioned as the year the current version will be replaced. This update will be built on the future TE1 platform, which will also serve as the basis for the new variants of the Expedition and Navigator, two of its most popular models.
This announcement shows that Ford’s commitment to electrification is firm and that it wants to be the American brand that leads the way for the rest. The transformation of the blue oval brand’s lineup will take shape over the coming months, and we will not have to wait long for more concrete information on all of this.
