Forza Horizon 5: this is how such a realistic sound is achieved

The developers of Forza Horizon 5 show us how they capture the sound of the engines.

The new Forza Horizon 5 will arrive next November, but today we want to show you how the sound of the best cars in the world is captured. There is nothing like capturing the real sound of an engine, and no computer, however powerful, can match the direct sound of an engine. This is how the audio of Forza Horizon 5 is recorded.

The Playground Games team has uploaded a video to its YouTube channel showing, step by step, how it captures the sound of cars for the next instalment of its legendary video game. The developers take each model to a closed track and to an open one. They place a number of microphones on the outside and even on the inside, without forgetting the exhaust pipes, to offer players a surround sound that is much more realistic.

Once the microphones are connected and recording, the car starts to roll. From that moment on, gentle accelerations, somewhat stronger ones, medium ones, slides and donuts, among others, are performed. This is done so that the developers can obtain a greater amount of audio. If you pay attention, every time you drive a car in the game, the sound it makes corresponds to the manoeuvre.

Exclusive models such as the Jaguar XJ220 or the Lancia Stratos did not perform every manoeuvre, only accelerations and turns. From there, the developers work with the recordings to give a higher sound quality. Forza Horizon 5 will be available for Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, PC with Windows 10 and Steam from 9 November 2021.

Can you keep waiting?
