From Thailand comes the new Toyota Corolla Cross

The Toyota Corolla family grows with the new crossover derived from the 5-door compact, which will be sold worldwide as the Toyota Corolla Cross

Toyota Corolla Cross (7)
A 5-door hatchback, saloon, estate and rugged-style body, and now, as an SUV, the Toyota Corolla Cross is the crossover derived from the popular Toyota Corolla.

The most adventurous version is being presented in Thailand, the first country where this new car will go on sale at the end of the year, and it will also be available in other markets worldwide, although the company has not yet specified which ones.

Considering that the two powertrains on offer will both be based on the same engine block, the 1.8 petrol, the electrified version would be the option that could be introduced most successfully in countries like Spain, where the craze for SUVs with an ECO label exceeds that caused by other epidemics.

Either way, the aforementioned 1,798 cc engine will come, in either of the two mechanical options, paired with an automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive, with the front axle acting as the intermediary between the engine and the road surface.

As for the construction platform, Toyota is based on the TNGA GA-C architecture to bring these new compact-derived crossovers to life.

This means that, in the comparison between the standard version and the SUV, the former has dimensions of 4,370 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width and 1,465 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,640 mm, while the latter measures 4,460, 1,825 and 1,620 mm respectively, with an identical wheelbase (2,640).

Thus, the new Toyota Corolla Cross is longer, wider and, above all, taller and will be sold offering more boot space since, for those who opt for an SUV with a puncture repair kit, the storage capacity is up to 487 litres available, 440 for those who opt for a spare wheel, compared with the 361 of the 5-door compact.

The weight of the petrol-only version is slightly lighter than the hybrid, 1,325 kg versus 1,385 kg for the supposed Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid.
