The new Mazda3 Turbo will offer 250 hp but will not have a manual gearbox
The successor to the MPS will be called the Mazda3 Turbo. It will produce 250 hp but will only be available with an automatic gearbox. Shall we get to know it a little better?

The Mazda3 Turbo is warming up its engines, and although the carmaker has opted not to use the MPS badge, its 2.5-litre engine will be capable of producing up to 250 CV and a peak torque of 433 Nm. These performance figures are considerably higher than those of its own rivals, such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which produces 245 CV and 370 Nm of torque.
The carmaker has stated that the engine of its new Mazda3 has been “specifically calibrated for the model in order to deliver a unique driving dynamic that our most passionate drivers expect”. However, the Mazda3 Turbo will not be offered with a manual gearbox and will only be available with a six-speed automatic transmission connected to the brand’s all-wheel-drive system, called i-Activ.

For the time being, Mazda has not wished to reveal performance specifications, but given the powerful engine combined with the AWD system, the Mazda 3 Turbo should be capable of competing with many of its most direct rivals. The Mazda3 Turbo will be easy to recognise, as it will feature larger exhaust outlets, 18-inch black aluminium alloy wheels, gloss-black mirror caps and the ‘Turbo’ badge on the tailgate and engine cover. We must not forget its shark-fin antenna, its automatic LED headlights with LED DRL technology, its gloss-black grille and a special decoration on the front bumper spoiler.

Mazda3 Turbo 2021: a worthy successor to the Mazda MPS?
The new member of the Mazda family offers an interior dominated by a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters. Drivers will enjoy better visibility through their auto-dimming frameless rear-view mirrors, as well as chrome finishes around the Start & Stop button and the glovebox. The standard technology list is quite long. It includes an 8.8-inch central touchscreen with audio, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Mazda Connected Services with three years of trial, Wi-Fi hotspot, an active driving display, a rear-view camera and rain-sensing wipers.
Passengers will also have two front USB inputs, keyless entry, an electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control and heated seats. On the safety front, the Mazda3 Turbo comes with the standard i-Activsense safety package, which includes adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, smart brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, adaptive front lighting system and high-beam control.

The Mazda3 Turbo is expected to reach dealerships by the end of this year. Will we finally see it in Europe?
