Goodbye to the Chrysler PT Cruiser

A vehicle that was revolutionary up to a point, and the second-cheapest the group now offers in Spain, the first retro design on the market will see its days numbered next month (9 July), when its production is cancelled, after 1.3 million vehicles sold.

It’s worth taking a closer look at what happened to the PT Cruiser when it hit the market, before the retro concept became so fashionable. With very strong sales in its first two years, the PT Cruiser took the easy route on the part of Chrysler and was forgotten by the company, receiving few styling updates (though it did get engine updates), but with a sizeable following in the US.

Diego already told us almost a year ago, and Chrysler has kept to the deadline almost exactly and to the letter: the PT Cruiser will be produced for one more year. So far this year, the veteran car has sold 5,400 units in the US. I don’t think it has done much better in the rest of the world.
