Goodyear 4Seasons: the perfect tyres for the whole year

Goodyear 4Seasons tyres are ideal for driving in any season of the year, under any weather conditions, and with practically the same durability as their winter and summer counterparts.

At Top10motor we had the opportunity to attend a Goodyear event to present its 4Seasons tyres. This type of tyre is also known as all-season or all-weather tyres.

The venue chosen for the event was the Finca Astilbe in Madrid, where we had the opportunity to test them and learn more about how they work and what they can do.

The first all-season or “all-weather” tyre from the company hit the market in 1977, that is, 41 years ago. Since then, improvements, innovation and refinement in this category of tyre have made Goodyear’s 4Seasons one of the most award-winning tyres in the eyes of the various media and professionals, surpassing its most direct competition in many respects.

In the words of Héctor Ares, Communication Manager at Goodyear Spain:

“It is the tyre in its category that has received the most awards over the years from the leading motoring media. We are not claiming that our product is the best; it is professionals who confirm the quality of our work.”

Goodyear’s “all-weather” tyres are the perfect ally for facing all kinds of conditions and climates. Rafael Poyo, Marketing Manager at Goodyear Spain, pointed out when recalling that this is an option offering great versatility for coping with the Spanish climate, as it is a tyre that can be used all year round, combining the characteristics of winter tyres with those of summer tyres.

The 4 Season range is divided into 5 available options within the Vector 4 Seasons line:

-Cargo Vector 2: An all-weather tyre designed for light trucks or vans with high performance. According to Goodyear, its durability is truly impressive. Of course, it will depend on use and on the number of journeys made throughout the year.

-Vector 4Seasons SUV Gen-1 and Gen-2: Both options are aimed at use on SUVs.

-Vector 4Seasons Gen-1 and Gen-2: These are the most basic option for all types of passenger cars and city cars.

Prices range from €71.50 per unit for the cheapest, up to €354 per unit for the most expensive, depending on range and dimensions.

How do these types of tyres work?

It is important to dispel the myth that 4Seasons tyres have much lower durability than traditional winter and summer tyres. It is true that in their early generations this was the case. However, this problem disappeared long ago. Their lifespan varies depending on use, but a rough estimate places them at 35,000 km on average, equivalent therefore to a summer tyre.

As for how they work, they feature several technologies that differ from a conventional summer tyre, to deliver the kind of performance we expect from a tyre capable of running on both snow and dry asphalt, and performing well in low temperatures.

The tyre has a higher proportion of silica, which increases its performance and durability throughout the year.

The arrow-shaped tread has been improved and adapts perfectly to all kinds of weather conditions encountered on the road. Thanks to its hydrodynamic grooves, clearing water has never been easier. It also provides greater resistance to aquaplaning.

Its profile is flatter and has a larger contact surface, which helps it cope with icy terrain. In addition, thanks to the better distribution of its blocks, it allows safe driving on snowy roads. In fact, few people know that this type of tyre means you do not need to use chains, as it carries the M+S certification and the three-peak mountain with snowflake symbol inside it, which will undoubtedly simplify things and spare you one problem less.

Some of the proven advantages of the 4Seasons are its improved braking capacity, which according to TÜV improves the total braking distance by 2.5 metres compared with similar competitor tyres in adverse conditions.

Having had the opportunity to test the tyres on vehicles such as the Jaguar E-Pace, Opel Corsa and Opel Insignia, in their various ranges and with different dimensions, our first impression during the test is that it is a tyre that performs flawlessly in dry conditions and low temperatures. We have not been able to check its performance in snow or ice, nor in rain. However, the results obtained in the brand’s tests with independent certification bodies are promising.

In short, Goodyear 4Seasons are the perfect option for facing any type of climate or situation, and a great idea so you do not have to worry about changing tyres for the different seasons.
