Over the past weekend one of the sweetest motoring events of the year to watch took place. We are referring to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. These past few days we have talked a lot about that event in the following articles: The Goodwood Festival of Speed competition in more than 100 images, the Bugatti Chiron in full action at the Goodwood Festival or the Goodwood Festival is paradise for supercars.

Well then. During that same weekend we had presented the new Mercedes GT R. In case you don’t remember, this supercar is the most extreme version of the Mercedes AMG GT, above the GT S. It features a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 577 horsepower at full output. It also has a body kit that is as aerodynamic as it is aggressive and multiple carbon-fibre components that reduce the car’s total weight compared with the AMG GT S. Its top speed far exceeds 300 km/h and it needs 3.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h.

The thing is, Lewis Hamilton was at Goodwood as a draw of attention for the car’s presentation. According to the outlet Motoring, they interviewed him and he made some statements we should take note of, as they may affect the upcoming models of extremely high performance that Mercedes-AMG launches, along with its limited editions.

The three-time Formula 1 champion declared that he had wanted to get involved with the AMG GT R, but by that point the car was already developed, so Hamilton’s idea could no longer be carried out, as he arrived too late. However, he himself reportedly stated that both parties have talked about launching some “LH” limited edition at some point, although it may be of this model or another.

He did not want to say too much about which model (or models) he would like to carry his initials, but he did say that nobody can tune a car like he can, and any car he configured would make its driver feel very close to a Formula 1 car. And who better than a Formula 1 driver to tune a car that wants to be radical?
