Henrik Fisker steps down as head of Fisker Automotive

A bombshell news story today has shaken the automotive industry. Henrik Fisker has stepped down as CEO of the company, according to what he himself communicated in an email. The executive, who in the past was a designer for BMW, Ford and Aston Martin, cited several significant differences with the company’s board over strategic decisions.

The truth is that the company was in a state that was little short of critical, after it has not been able to produce a single vehicle since last summer, after the Obama administration denied a subsidy to launch new models, and amid the uncertainty of the Chinese, who have not decided to invest money in Fisker.

What will happen now with Fisker? I think some other shareholder of the brand will simply become its next president, although the brand’s value and credibility will drop too much. Despite everything, it seems that Volvo and Geely are going to make some move to fully finance Fisker on the Atlantic project, the next saloon Fisker had in its plans.

And the fact is that, today, China is one of the few places to turn to for money, in exchange for ceding a large part of the technical and intellectual property of whatever you are going to produce. And that will surely happen sooner or later in Fisker’s case.
