The retro style has come back into fashion at Honda. Last September, the Japanese firm presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show the Honda Urban EV Concept, a classic-styled electric compact that drew much of the attention at the German show.

A month later, Honda surprises us again with an electric sports model that repeats the formula of the Frankfurt prototype. The Honda Sports EV Concept has been inspired by a true classic, the Honda S600. It features a fastback coupé body that perfectly blends the retro style of classic muscle cars with the more modern details that characterise today’s electric cars. The design of this car is truly captivating.

The Honda S600, the model that inspired the new Honda electric sports prototype, was the first sports vehicle in the history of the Japanese brand. It offered a 600 cc four-cylinder engine that reached 8,000 rpm, a rev range similar to that of another icon, the Honda S2000. Half a century later, Honda aims to revive the S600 with a prototype as bold and spectacular as this Honda Sports EV Concept.

The front of the electric coupé prototype reminds us of another classic, the first generation Chevrolet Camaro, a muscle car that debuted in 1967 with a front grille very similar to that of this Honda Sports EV Concept. The round lights and the illuminated Honda emblem give the whole a look that is as modern as it is retro, a perfect mix. The profile and the rear, on the other hand, have been taken directly from the Honda S600. The large-volume wheel arches have been sculpted with unmatched refinement.

Honda has not revealed any details about the mechanics that this model could offer in a hypothetical production version, but we do know it would incorporate an artificial intelligence system that would act as an advanced personal assistant.
