Honda would be working on a convertible version of the Acura NSX

We still don’t know much about the Acura NSX, but at least now we know that Honda is already working on a convertible version, months before the coupé reaches the market. However, not everything will be cheering among NSX fans when they learn that the convertible still has a long way to go; engineers estimate that the convertible version will arrive in 2017, two years after the presentation of the NSX coupé.
One of the decisions the engineers of Honda will face is choosing between a hard top or a soft top, as well as adopting some variant of a different engine. Most likely it will be a genuine convertible, with a soft top, and the engine will not undergo modifications compared to the coupé, according to what Jun Goto, the project’s chief designer, has stated.
So, setting aside possible engine differences, we still have to see what the NSX convertible will look like. Let’s recall that the first NSXs were convertibles, although the next model will not resemble the original much. For those who have seen the Avengers film, you will surely remember the convertible, which was nothing more than a 1991 NSX prepared for the occasion. And what does the “real one” have to do with the one from that film? It is very possible that they will be almost similar.
The new NSX will feature a direct-injection, twin-turbo V6 engine, coupled with an electric motor. The drivetrain will also be controlled by two electric motors, a kind of all-electric all-wheel drive. The tentative presentation date, for now, will take place at the Detroit Motor Show in 2015.
