HypersonX, the sound of the future for the Neue Klasse from BMW

One of the challenges of new electric cars is to have a sonic signature that identifies them as they drive. In addition, cars need a sound that identifies them, since they are very quiet vehicles and this can lead to moments of risk because of their silent movement.

BMW has just announced a sound system that will be implemented in the Neue Klasse, which will not only announce the arrival of the vehicle, but will also shape the sound of the various elements that make up the vehicle’s sonic ecosystem. The HypersonX will offer a complete catalogue of sounds that will mark the sonic identity of the Neue Klasse, the new generation of vehicles from the Bavarian brand.

To achieve a sound experience that goes beyond traditional use, creating an emotional connection between the driver and the vehicle, BMW has worked to create a range of sounds that integrate with the brand’s new operating system. The engineers drew on sounds found in nature, but also on artistic creation.

To develop HypersonX, algorithmic generation was used to create more than nine million sound instances based on the acoustic DNA of BMW. These tracks were then filtered and refined to create a coherent sound experience. Each sound corresponds to a driving situation and has been designed to strengthen the emotional bond between the driver and the vehicle, so that both are fully integrated in this new generation of electric vehicles.

HypersonX will begin to be used in the new electric models of BMW in 2025, and it is intended to become a unique signature that defines these new cars of the brand, including through sound.
