Hyundai EV Prophecy, this is the new electric and autonomous concept

It is called Prophecy and it is the new fully electric and autonomous concept from Hyundai.

Prophecy Interior 1

The brand wanted to go one step further and presented its new concept, called Hyundai EV Prophecy, at the Geneva Motor Show. The brand’s new prototype follows the design philosophy of Sensuous Sportiness. Furthermore, as the manufacturer itself has stated, this model “develops the concept of Hyundai’s ‘Optimistic Futurism’ with the aim of forging an emotional connection between humans and cars”.

This new concept features an iconic silhouette of perfect proportions, as the brand itself has pointed out. The wheelbase is now longer and the overhangs are shorter. This is possible thanks to a new platform for electric cars that combines “functionality and aesthetic harmony”.

SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai’s Global Design Center, has stated that “we have brought to life another icon that sets a new standard for the electric vehicle segment, and which also takes Hyundai’s design vision to even broader horizons”. “Part of that expansion is what we call ‘Optimistic Futurism’, a design concept embodied by the ‘Prophecy‘. With this concept, our goal is to forge an emotional connection between humans and cars.”

As Hyundai reports, the new Sensuous Sportiness philosophy becomes visible in the side sections and the aerodynamics. “The propeller-like shapes embedded in the vehicle’s wheels not only assert this trait, but also force the air to be drawn in and flow along the flank of the bodywork like water over a stone. The integrated rear spoiler complements this effect by harnessing downforce, which helps the vehicle’s stability when travelling at high speeds.”

Hyundai’s designers aimed to deliver a timeless design together with excellent aerodynamics by adopting a almost wrinkle-free body and propeller-shaped alloy wheels. The rear features an integrated rear spoiler and an extended overhang to aid aerodynamics and make the Prophecy look like it is moving even when it is stationary.

The pixelated LED light panels, first seen on the Hyundai 45 concept, are also present in the front headlights, the rear lights and the rear spoiler, and the company says they will become a signature design feature on its future models.

The cabin, in a typical concept, makes use of the extended wheelbase and the autonomous driving feature by having no steering wheel at all; instead, there is a pair of futuristic buttons, one mounted on the door card and the other on the central console that runs through the interior, giving it a strict four-seat layout.

Apparently, the driver can select ‘Relax’ mode, which allows the car to drive itself and reclines the seats to clear passengers’ view of obstacles, letting them enjoy the pillar-to-pillar screen and the wing-shaped dashboard.

Prophecy Exterior 4

It is no coincidence that Hyundai chose the name ‘Prophecy’ for its latest concept, as it is believed that the Korean carmaker is anticipating a future high-performance electric vehicle. Hyundai’s next generation of electric models is set to adopt its own design language, and if the 45 and Prophecy concepts are anything to go by, a surprise awaits us.
