Hyundai introduces the world's first sunroof airbag
Hyundai has just announced a new airbag that covers the entire surface of the sunroof. In this way, injuries to both the head and the neck will be prevented.

Safety is a very important factor in vehicles, since it can protect not only our own lives but also those of others. Little by little, this aspect has undergone great evolution, allowing cars to have few shortcomings and to cover all those elements that could be harmful to occupants. Even so, Hyundai has wanted to go even further and offer an even greater level of protection, thanks to the new airbag that deploys from the sunroof.
The Korean brand aims to offer a higher level of safety in its vehicles thanks to the incorporation of this new airbag, which will prevent possible injuries to both the neck and the head. This new feature will give all Hyundai models extra protection and, at the same time, represents an innovation never seen before.
This airbag is installed inside the panoramic roof so that, in the event of an accident, it extends from the rear edge of the roof, covering its entire surface, precisely where some kind of impact may occur. Its operation is very similar to that of curtain airbags, except that in this case the area to be covered is larger.

Another novelty in this safety system implemented by Hyundai is that, thanks to a sensor installed in the airbag, it is activated when it detects a change in the vehicle’s angle due to a collision and a rollover occurs. At the same time, the airbag takes only 0.08 seconds to deploy, which is fast enough to prevent any harm to the occupants. Another problem solved by Hyundai has been preventing passengers from being thrown out through the sunroof, which will keep them safe inside the cabin.
However, developing this airbag has not been simple, since the Korean engineers had to carry out an exhaustive effort to ensure that its deployment does not pose any kind of danger. At the same time, they have managed to make the airbag activate even when the sunroof is not open, since it will still cover the area between the curtain and the glass.

At the same time, Hyundai has had to struggle hard, to the point of applying for eleven patents to carry out this project. This will allow them to continue researching and achieve even more surprising results in the future. Right now, this safety measure will be essential and will watch over the lives of thousands of people, who will travel much more safely thanks to Hyundai.
