Hyundai Tucson 2019: new look and new engines
The Hyundai Tucson makes its debut at the New York Auto Show with an update to its exterior and interior design, and interesting news on engines and transmissions.
The Hyundai Tucson is the brand’s best-selling model in Europe, and placed second among the best-selling SUVs in Spain in 2017. Now, Hyundai has just unveiled at the New York Auto Show an update to the model that succeeded the Hyundai ix35 in 2015. The new flagship SUV of the Korean brand, the Hyundai Santa Fe, has also made its public debut here. The new Tucson will arrive in Europe in the summer.

The Hyundai Tucson needed few changes, as its design is fully up to date. But Hyundai has decided to make modifications to keep up with the new style being adopted across the brand’s models. The front grille, bumper design, lighting units – with the arrival of full LED front headlights – and wheels are all new. This is typical of a restyling.

Proportionally, the change is more profound inside, with a completely redesigned dashboard. The multimedia system screen integrated into the centre console of the current Hyundai Tucson now sits in a floating, higher position. It comes with seven inches as standard, and can go up to eight inches including 3D navigation and Live services with real-time information. Some equipment has also been added. Hyundai says the integration of mobile phones has been revised so that their use while driving is more intuitive. A wireless mobile phone charger appears, and USB ports are added for the rear seats.

Among the active safety and driving assistance systems, the new Tucson will not lack the systems grouped under what Hyundai calls SmartSense: emergency braking assist, active lane keeping system, driver fatigue monitor, intelligent speed limit warning, 360-degree camera and intelligent cruise control with front radar sensors.
New engines and dual-clutch gearbox
The four engines offered in the new Hyundai Tucson, two petrol and two diesel, have been modified to improve consumption and polluting emissions.
The diesel range keeps the 2.0 CRDi with 186 CV, paired with 4×4 traction, and available with either a manual gearbox or the new 8-speed automatic gearbox from Hyundai. The 1.6 CRDi is offered in 115 and 133 CV versions, both with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox, with the option of 4×4 traction and 7DCT dual-clutch gearbox on the 133 CV version.

The petrol engines are the naturally aspirated 1.6 GDI with 132 CV, and the T-GDI version with turbocharger and 177 CV. The former is only offered with front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, while the more powerful one can be combined with 4×4 traction and the dual-clutch gearbox.
