Hyundai Tucson N Line, trims and sporty settings for the Korean SUV

Far from being just another trim, the new Hyundai Tucson N Line promises sportiness in its driving and a look that lives up to its name

We knew it and, for that reason, we were looking forward to it. What we didn’t imagine is that before the arrival of the Hyundai Tucson N, the most sporty version of the Hyundai SUV, we would meet an intermediate version. The step between the most relaxed range and the most extreme one.

And it is that the new Hyundai Tucson N Line will be closer in behaviour to the upcoming sporty SUV from the Korean brand than to the most basic versions, especially in styling and dynamics. The same happens with the Hyundai i30 range, where among the sportiest versions, the Hyundai i30 N road test of both the hatchback and the Fastback already published, and the more restrained ones, is worth remembering.

From the outset, the interior of the N Line trim stands out for its use of exclusive elements and materials, such as the sport seats with leather upholstery and embroidered N Line logo, the gear lever matching the pedals, and a steering wheel with a red position marker.

Thanks to specific adjustments for the new Hyundai Tucson N Line in terms of steering and suspension, the Hyundai engineering team has sought to make this SUV more effective when driven in sportier conditions.

To do so, the steering has been updated via software to make it more precise, and the shock absorber springs have been calibrated and now offer greater stiffness than the standard ones.

Engines of the new Hyundai Tucson N Line

As for the mechanical side, the biggest news arrives. While it is true that the power figures of the new Hyundai Tucson N Line do not approach the roughly 250 or 280 CV that the Tucson N version could have, the major novelty comes with the diesel and hybrid offering.

Indeed, the new Hyundai Tucson N Line will feature a 1.6 and 2.0-litre CRDi diesel engine with a 48 V mild-hybrid system. In this way, although the electric system adds no power, it does reduce consumption by up to 11 percent, according to the WLTP homologation data handled by Hyundai.

Thus, the Hyundai Tucson N Line mild-hybrid diesel will be available with 136 CV for the 1.6 block or 185 CV for the 2.0, and there will also be a Hyundai Tucson N Line petrol. This variant uses petrol to power the engine and will be offered paired with the 1.6-litre T-GDI block producing 177 CV.

In any case, besides being able to choose among the three engines mentioned, the new Hyundai Tucson N Line can be specified with all-wheel or front-wheel drive. Furthermore, you can choose between the six-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed automatic.

Although the price of the new Hyundai Tucson N Line and the date or period of sale have not been disclosed, we expect this trim to be available from this very same 2019 and to be the forerunner of the arrival of the Hyundai Tucson N.
