ID. Cross Concept: Volkswagen unveils its future electric compact SUV

The ID. Cross Concept represents the best version of Volkswagen to date, with a redesigned look, advanced technologies, higher-quality finishes and a name that connects with tradition.

Volkswagen has just unveiled in Germany the ID. Cross Concept, a prototype very close to the future production version, which will be officially presented in the summer of 2026, shortly after the market launch of the ID. Polo. These two models, the ID. Cross and the ID. Polo, will represent Volkswagen’s bet, with which the German manufacturer will try to carve out a place in the electric compact segment from next year onwards.

The ID. Cross will be Made in Spain, since its production will take place at Volkswagen’s plant in Pamplona, whose assembly line will also produce the Skoda Epiq. Meanwhile, the ID. Polo and the Cupra Raval will be built at the Barcelona plant in Martorell.

As for its technical specifications, what we know today is that this electric SUV will have a single front-mounted motor with 155 kW of power, paired with a battery pack that will probably be NMC and whose capacity has not yet been revealed. In any case, Volkswagen promises a WLTP range of up to 420 km. This is therefore slightly lower than the 450 km the ID. Polo is expected to offer.

A few months after the official launch of the ID. Cross, Volkswagen plans to sell a more affordable version that will have a price close to 25,000 euros and could feature a smaller-capacity LFP battery pack.

Compact but with generous interior space for enjoying free time

At 4.16 m long, 1.84 m wide, 1.59 m high and with a 2.60 m wheelbase, the dimensions of the ID. Cross are very similar to those of the combustion-engined T-Cross we already know. The new electric compact SUV from Volkswagen will offer generous interior space, with up to 450 litres of boot space and a small additional front compartment of 25 litres. The folding seats will also create a flat surface, maximising the available space for carrying bulky loads or even allowing it to be used for camping. With the integrated towbar it can tow up to 1,200 kg or carry a bike rack for a couple of e-bikes, making it the perfect vehicle for new adventures and for enjoying weekends or holidays.

The design of the ID. Cross, inspired by other iconic models from the German manufacturer, such as the Golf, stands out for its modernity, to which its distinctive C-pillars undoubtedly contribute. The Urban Jungle paint of this prototype conveys calm, while inside, the use of beige fabrics and a Lounge atmosphere enhance that sense of relaxation and well-being. The plant motifs on the screens and the real plants on the centre console reinforce this natural connection.
