It's official: the new BMW 4 Series Convertible

BMW Serie 4 01

It was an open secret, especially as in recent weeks spy photos, videos and technical specifications kept emerging. But now there’s nothing left to wait for, because BMW has officially unveiled the Convertible version of the 4 Series.

It is the “spiritual heir” of the 3 Series Convertible, which renews its style taking the 4 Series as its reference, while retaining details similar to the previous generation, such as the hard top.

Its first public appearance is scheduled for next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Its styling is very similar to that of the 4 Series Coupé, just as was the case in the previous generation, when the 3 Series Coupé and Convertible differed very little.
The main difference is, obviously, the roof, which although still made of metal, now folds in 3 parts, revealing a cabin of good quality with enough room for 4 passengers. The roof can be lowered while on the move, provided the vehicle does not exceed 18 km/h. Boot capacity grows over its predecessor by 20 litres, reaching 220 litres.

The engines of the 4 Series Convertible will be the same as those of the Coupé version, so from the outset of its sale there will be three alternatives. Namely, two petrol engines, the 428i with 240 CV and the 435i with 306 CV. In addition, a diesel will be offered, the 420d, with 184 CV. All engines can be combined with 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic gearboxes.
The starting price in our country will be around 45,000 EUR, and several trim levels can be chosen: Base, Modern, Luxury, Sport and M-Sport.
