The bombshells Sergio Marchionne has dropped at the NAIAS about the future of the Chrysler Group may well become the new talking points of the industry rumour mill, but let’s not forget that there is another important matter this year for one of its brands. Namely, in 2011 Jeep reaches seventy years of life, during which its products have evolved considerably from the very spartan models it built at the start.

Custom dictates that the occasion deserves a corresponding limited edition, and the American manufacturer has not wanted to leave out any member of its range. Their common elements include the “70th Anniversary” emblem and a matching logo on the audio system screen, dark perforated leather upholstery with chestnut-coloured stitching, the trim covering the dashboard in dark green, or specific floor mats and a leather steering wheel also with brown stitching.

In addition, all of them come with alloy wheels of 18 inches, except the Patriot, which has 17-inch ones, and the Grand Cherokee, which has 20-inch ones. As for the features that set each model apart, the Wrangler has the outline of the centre console, the gear lever knob and the door handles inside and out in satin chrome, plus polished aluminium Mopar metal plates on the door sills and dark upholstery on the armrests and the centre console.

The Cherokee/Liberty is characterised by gloss-finish protective side mouldings, roof bars and number plate surround, some interior trims and bezels in either satin chrome or black or silver, and other Mopar stainless steel plates on the door sills. Finally, the Grand Cherokee comes loaded with all of the above plus the exclusive upholstery in additional places (although another option combining black with dark olive green can be ordered), the steering wheel wrapped in black leather, and finishes in satin chrome, black-toned wood or graphite.
