Amarok Volkswagen Curiosities Pick-up
Jiangling T7, the Chinese copy of the Volkswagen Amarok

We all know how fond Chinese manufacturers are of “drawing inspiration” from the designs of other car brands.
Frankly, they are very keen on copying, and brazen copying. This is the case of the manufacturer Jiangling, which on this occasion has taken the design of the VW Amarok to create its new pick-up.
Once again, we come across a product of Chinese origin that, without any shame, has been created from a Western design that has had more details altered than the brand’s logo. On this occasion, the copy is “only” of the front end, completely copied from that of the Amarok, as you can see in the photographs accompanying this article.
The side view of the Jiangling T7 is already different, as it is much more boxy and straight than that of the Amarok, which is more refined and rounded (within what a pick-up can be), much closer to European taste. We will set aside comparisons regarding build quality and use of materials, since they make no sense here, as it is not yet an area in which Chinese manufacturers compete.

As a curiosity, the Jiangling T7 is powered by two engines. The first, a petrol unit, is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder producing 110 CV, while the second is a diesel engine of Isuzu origin, 2.8 litres, turbocharged, delivering 100 CV. This offer contrasts with the Amarok range, which consists of various trims and state-of-the-art TDI engines with outputs reaching 180 CV.
In our country, the VW Amarok is sold in both single and double cab versions, with a starting price of 30,500€. It has been on sale since 2012, enjoying notable sales success in various parts of Europe, as well as in South America, where it is a highly appreciated model.
