If you’re thinking about making the leap to electrification, you may be seeing the number of models arriving on the market, which makes the decision quite complicated.
To begin with, we are going to focus on the Cupra Born. This model is the brand’s first fully electric car. It made its debut in 2020 but did not reach the market until last year, 2021. It is built on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen group, the same one that underpins the Volkswagen ID.3.
It measures 4.32 metres in length, 1.81 metres in width and 1.54 metres in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.76 metres. It seats five passengers and has a boot with a capacity of up to 385 litres. It is currently available in two versions, one with 204 CV and another with 231 CV of power. Both options feature a 58 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows a range of between 407 and 416 kilometres on a single charge.
Its standard equipment highlights a dual-zone climate control system, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, parking sensors, a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charger, driver fatigue detection, infotainment system, and keyless entry and start, among other features. Its starting price is around 38,720 euros, excluding promotions and the MOVES III Plan subsidies.
How is the new Kia e-Niro?

Now that we know all the details of the Cupra Born, let’s focus on the new e-Niro. The new generation of this SUV brings more equipment, more technology and new powertrains. It measures 4.42 metres in length, 1.82 metres in width, 1.57 metres in height and has a wheelbase of 2.72 metres. It also seats five passengers, and its boot offers 495 litres, which can be expanded to 1,390 litres with the rear seats folded down.
The new Kia e-Niro is available with a 204 CV powertrain and a 65 kWh battery that gives it a range of up to 463 kilometres on mixed driving. Its equipment highlights 17-inch alloy wheels, electric parking brake, lane keeping assist, driver fatigue detection, automatic high beams, pre-collision system, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system with navigation, and automatic climate control, among other features. Its price starts at 40,550 euros, without discounts, the same as the Born.
Kia e-Niro vs Cupra Born, which one to choose?

If you’re looking for a bigger car, the clear option is to opt for the second generation of the Kia e-Niro. As well as being larger, it offers greater boot capacity. The e-Niro also has the longer range, but if you are choosing between powertrains, the ideal choice is the Cupra Born.
In terms of equipment, both models are very well equipped and offer a high level. On price, without discounts, the difference is around 1,800 euros, so you will have to choose which design you prefer. The decision should be based on design and cargo capacity.
