Kia will launch the EV1, an electric city car designed to reach more drivers

Kia wants to keep betting on urban electric mobility with the development of the EV1, a model that will sit below the newly presented EV2.

Very recently, Kia presented the EV2, a electric SUV measuring four metres in length and designed for urban driving. But now it wants to go a step further and is preparing an even smaller model, ready to be driven through city streets. The EV1, which is the name this model will carry, is still in development, so it is too early to know details about it.

The Kia EV1 forms part of the Korean brand’s strategy to reach 15 electric models before 2027. The intention is to sell 1.6 million electrified units annually by 2030. To achieve this, the Kia EV1 will be priced between 20,000 and 25,000 euros, placing it within reach of many buyers.

Some details of the Kia EV1

This city model will measure 3.7 metres in length, below its bigger sibling, the EV2. It will be built on Kia’s EGMP platform. This uses a 400-volt architecture, which guarantees fast charging and an appealing proposition for the average user. It is set to become a city car that could be quite popular in European cities.

The aim is to compete with electric city cars from European manufacturers, offering an attractive design without sacrificing build quality. A prototype of the Kia EV1 will not appear until late 2026, so we will not have much more information on it until the final months of the year.

This model will be assembled at the Zilina plant in Slovakia. This production centre will establish the manufacture of electric models aimed at the European market. By 2027, the factory is expected to be capable of producing up to 180,000 electric vehicles from its line, enough to meet the expected demand in European markets.
